Roger Fry's 1925 painting entitled 'Garden at Cassis'. Five of Fry's Cassis paintings were shown at the 1926 First London Artists' Association exhibition where they were considered by some critics as his best work yet. In a letter to Vanessa Bell he writes "I'm getting more and more to like this place for painting but as that always happens anywhere one goes along this coast I don't know that it means much. The port is lovely and I've found a motive in the Hotel garden and in a square a few yards off."
