This work was created from a series of sketches Fry made during a visit to Provence. He was travelling with friend, Angela Lavelli and had come to the area to paint a particular scene, following in the footsteps of Cezanne. Unfortunately due to high mistral winds he was unable to get out and instead stayed in the hotel making sketches of the characters within.
