Dame Laura Knight’s portrait of ‘Chloe’
Chloe was a nurse at the Johns Hopkins Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. Knight was great friends with William S Baer an orthopaedic surgeon at the hospital and it was through him that she gained consent to undertake a series of sketches and paintings of people on the wards.
