*Christopher Wood “Aux Cent Mille Cartes” watercolour and gouache on paper. This little card shop could be anywhere in Paris; perhaps in the streets around the Passage des Panoramas where Wood attended the Académie Julian in 1921. The painting is not dated but perhaps made at around this time or later in around 1926 when he produced many of his Paris street scene artworks. Wood lived in Paris with Jean Cocteau, also an opium addict, possibly in Cocteau’s family home in the South Pigalle district - the building now home to a Soho House Hotel.*
