Augustus Edwin John
Mixed flowers in a glass jar
This painting by John, is known to have hung in the drawing room of his house, Fryern Court between 1938 and 1948. When Augustus John and Dorelia moved to Fryen Court in 1927, it had been separated from a larger farm estate and had been occupied by an artist. A small artist studio was already in existence. John appointed Christopher Nicholson (son of William and Mabel) to create a larger studio alongside a pond and garden that he and Dorelia had created. These flowers are likely from that same garden, possibly painted in that new Nicholson studio.
Fryen Court, near Fordingbridge, in the Avon Valley, Grade II listed.
